Shortly after the Daniel’s tweet went viral in early September, the community college student told Buzzfeed that he put the photo in his wallet after losing his I.D. The picture used by both men is of Crews in the sitcom “Everybody Hates Chris,” in which he played Julius, an extremely frugal and demanding (but loving) father. Chris finds Julius mens magazine and brings it to school, where a bully steals it. “I keep this pic of myself in my wallet so I can see it when I’m about to waste money on things I don’t need lol,” he wrote on Instagram alongside an image of the same photo in his wallet, echoing student Daniel’s original tweet. Chris Rock stated that the show's name is a parody of the popular sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond. Everybody Hates Chris was inspired by Chris Rock's miserable life as a teenager. The show originally aired on NickNite, but then moved to TeenNick.

Weeks after a college student tweeted that he used a photo of the actor in “Everybody Hates Chris” to dissuade him from spending his money irresponsibly, the former football player revealed that he does the same thing. Everybody Hates Chris is an American television series that first aired in September 2005 and ended airing in May 2009 on UPN (later became The CW).
